Open Position: FarmHer
Growing High Point, a nonprofit whose mission is to transform under-resourced neighborhoods through community engagement, empowerment, and entrepreneurship, has a grant-funded, part-time farming position available to women.
Women, especially women of color, have historically been underrepresented in farming in the United States.
At Growing High Point (GHP), our farm team is comprised of eight women, and we know that women face overwhelming challenges and need jobs with variable schedules that support work-life balance and promote self-sufficiency. At GHP, we've launched The FarmHer Project to provide women with flexible, part-time opportunities to work alongside other women growers on Urban Acres Farms, all located in neighborhoods within the 27260 ZIP code.
GHP advances organic and regenerative farming, creating viable opportunities for new farmers and widening access to fresh, nutrient-dense foods in historically underserved areas. GHP transforms vacant lots into urban farms, fueling environmental stewardship and offering residents the skills to build sustainable livelihoods.
GHP's FarmHer Program supports the next generation of farmers, giving hands-on agricultural education to diverse growers—especially marginalized residents—who face financial and structural barriers to land and resources.
The FarmHer Project is designed to equip aspiring female urban farmers with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to succeed in agriculture while introducing them to new ideas in agribusiness and food entrepreneurship. Participants will:
-
Gain hands-on farming skills through all growing seasons.
-
Create connections with mentors, other program participants and the community.
-
Access resources provided by GHP.
-
Learn how to grow food sustainably in an urban setting.
Time Expectations:
-
5-15 hours of weekly participation in year-round hands-on training and independent project work.
Additional Resources Offered:
-
Micro-business planning, marketing support and networking opportunities.
-
Access to existing markets.
